My story...

I have been in love with children's books for as long as I can remember. Unlike my friends, I never seemed to fall out of that love as I grew older. When I was thirteen, my mother went to college to be an elementary school teacher! My sister and I, pretending to help her with her homework, eagerly read all the picture books and middle grade novels she brought home to study.

I have always loved writing as much as I loved reading. Once, my father got a gift of wine in a fancy tin. I wanted that tin so badly! I begged him for it. Thinking he had outwitted me, he told me I could have it if I wrote a 500-word essay, "Why I want this Tin." Easy-peasy! I got the tin.

I went to college to be a graphic designer, but I took as many English classes as I could. As a graphic designer, I have had a business with a partner—who is also my best friend—for many years. It’s important to do what you love, but even better, to have a friend along with you. We’ve worked on so many fun products: bicycle decals and accessories, bubble bath and bath toys for Disney, Mattel, Nickelodeon, and Scholastic, makeup for ULTA, and best of all, lots and lots of cookies.

I've attended the Stonecoast Writer’s workshop at the University of Southern Maine, a children’s literature intensive at Vassar, and taken a class on picture book illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. I’ve also attended conferences as a member of the SCBWI, (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators), and participated in a middle grade writer’s retreat at Highlights Foundation (now Boyds Mills).

I am currently seeking representation for my writing.

This is an old photo of my family (my dad must have taken it). I am the one with the Princess Leia hair, and Star Wars hadn't even come out yet!

My best friend and I used to write plays and perform them on the other side of that fence (it was our stage, backdrop, and quick change area when we ran behind it).

You can see what I'm reading—or adding to my enormous "to-read"  pile here...

I love to travel,  and of course I love

to read, so it's not surprising to see me doing both, but not usually like this...

on a yacht in the south of France!
